My Statements for the Article “Internet Activism Is a Myth”

Based on the article written in http://www.merinews.com/article/internet-activism-is-a-myth/15879713.shtml, there are three points found on. The three points are the difference between social media and social world, the existence a mediated public sphere, and the myth of being active in digital age irrespective of the medium.

At present, our lives can not be distinguished from the social network. It is such a sharp knife having two sides. In a side, it is really useful for us but the other side it is so dangerous. If we use it for our needs it will be helpful. On the other hand, it will kill us if we can not use it carefully. In fact, social network can make us do everything easily. We can find everything on it. We can get news, life style, information, and even friends. However, we have to realize that the social net media is not social world. It is not a real world that we can meet and great one other. It is just a screen connecting us with other people in this world. In addition, the people are currently satisfied doing what they can on social media. This activity makes us forget to differentiate between the social media and social world.

In the social media, we can do everything we want without afraid of getting insulting or mocking from others. We can talk what we want to speak and tell. Sometimes we criticize the government, politics and even our collages. We all make some groups having same idea to comment a thing or make a group only for existence. This side actually is so pity when someone just finds their selves on their shadow in their screen. Frankly, social media is just a tool for us. It is not a primer thing for our lives. However, we are as if we have forgotten about it. We make a new life in that media –social net work-. As we know, we are used to changing update on Facebook, following some friends on Twitter, talking much on Blogger, sharing many videos on You Tube , and doing many more in social media. Moreover, we do not realize that our activities create a mediated public sphere which actually make us forget from the real sphere –world.

        Now days, the world is getting smaller and smaller because the existence of the social media. Two people can know each other although they are from different countries. They can share, chat more and even make some relationship from it. Many people also can blame each other as if there were no police, laws and rules. Our lives also are not private any more because other people can show what we feel and what we do. In addition, it creates our lives such a true legend because we tell everything and many people know it and believe it. Therefore, I can say that the social media or the social network is only a myth which we believe that is true as a legend but actually it has never become a real story –but we do love and believe in.
